Hearing is the next sense that comes into play. As our hungry, active predator approaches the source of the vibration, it begins to hear any struggles the prey makes that cause vibrations in the frequency range of one hundred to thirteen thousand cycles per second. Of course, if the source of curiosity is a rattling crankbait instead of a wounded baitfish the bass would hear the bait first, or hear and feel it at the same time. In the muddy or cloudy water, where visibility is reduced to less than a foot, the bass rely on their tactile and auditory senses.
